Girls grab a Granny

Beasts start buttering up your Bestie

. . .  the Kitty & Cougar (entry level, womens only, average age, scaleable) throwdown is here!!

You see, we have a theory about you and competing . . .

You are hungry to try a comp, or to do another . . . hungry like the kind of hungry you get when you only had a pop-tart for breakfast *collective gasp*  ´that’s baaaaadd for you!”

But then the nerves kick in, maybe even the pooping of the pants, because you know oftentimes that ‘Rookie Division’ doesn’t truly represent real rookies,   and Intermediate “pffffttt”,  . . . so you err on the side of keeping your self esteem and simply vow to support those who do enter.

Ready to Register?

But The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown will help you throw out the butterflies and the nervous weeing (although the jump rope tinkles we can’t control) . . .

Because it is the average age comp that truly encourages you to mix and mingle, that closes the generation gap and puts all age partnerships on a level playing field, that rewards camaraderie and sisterhood above winning, and wants you to have a fun time at your box, while making new friends from all corners of the globe.

From Baby Boomers to Babies (in relative terms), this comp caters to you – in whatever age combinations you choose.

If you are a secret member (or proud out there member) of the Knitters and Quilters society – this is for you.

If you are a tatted up, nothing off limits, apron designer – you’re all good!

If you are 20 and your Grammy is bustin out the CrossFit moves in her 60s – you can partner up.

If the sound of your mothers/sisters/aunts voice inspires you to stuff cupcakes in your ears, then you can join forces with a Beastette from your Box (of any age!) . . .

Because we are Average Ageing you!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Note our divisions:

< 30

30 – 39

40 – 49

50 – 59

+ 60

*Note:  Athletes 14 – 17 need to have guardian permission.

  • Choose your partner
  • Add your ages together (as at the first day of competition -3rd August) & divide by 2. Register for the event under THAT AGE category

eg:Gina is 22 & Geraldine is 52. 22 + 52 = 74  (÷ by 2) = 37.  The GG’s therefore enter the 30 – 39 division

Katrina is 61 & Catherine is 60.  60 + 61 = 121 (÷ by 2) = 60.5.  The Bad Kats enter the +60 division.

  • Your team scores are entered under the age category you entered. (eg.  The GGs score for each WOD is entered in the 30 – 39 division,  The Bad Kats score for each WOD is entered in the +60 division).

THE COMP AND WORKOUTS:

3 weeks – 3 workouts (one a week), from 3rd August 2017.  Every workout has multiple scaling options where required!

WOD 1 (week 1):  Synchronised Couplet. Both partners working out at the same time. Teams AVERAGE AGE determines weights used and scaling for both participants

WOD 2 (week 2):  Gassy little two parter. Both team members working at the same time with no scaling required.

WOD 3 (week 3):  Partner workout. Mostly one working, one resting with a little synchronisation thrown in for good measure. Individuals CALENDAR/ACTUAL AGE determines weight used and scaling options available.

Take a look at our previous years’ workouts to get an idea of how we roll.

MAKING IT WORK

Workouts have been structured so your coach can make them a part of their class schedule for the week, or you can do it as time allows.

WODs, movement standards and scoring sheets will be released at 8am (NZ time), each Thursday, with the first coming out on Thurs 3rd August 2017 Check your time zone here

You will have 7 days to complete the workout and a further 48 hours to submit your score.  (Specific instructions will be posted with each WOD on the day of release).

BlackFin CrossFit participated in the Kitty Cougar Throwdown in November 2015. We had several teams of ladies who ranged from a high school teenager to a 60+ grandmother.

As a coach, I witnessed these ladies bringing each other to push well beyond what they would do in the gym normally. It was very pleasing to see the camaraderie spurred by their intensity.  They would arrange to show up to watch the others perform the workouts. Then occasionally decide to redo it themselves!

I know they thoroughly enjoyed the event. The ladies won 2 of the KB prizes, which we had them all sign and placed them on display at the gym.

Awesome job by the programmers and coordinators of the event. I know they look forward to the next one.

Thanks so much for including us!

As an affiliate owner I was so glad to have the opportunity to have our members participate in the Kitty and the Cougar. It was the most ability- inclusive comp for women that I have come across which is crucial for retention and box culture. There were ladies who struggled just to get to one or two days a week who threw themselves into training for it. Thank you Rachel (Nand Daz!), we look forward to participating again!
