The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown 2016 – Online Rules

    1. Is an online competition designed to encourage participation as a team, camaraderie between box members, and partnerships between competitors of all ages.
    2. Consists of 3 workouts that will be released over 3 weeks at

To participate in The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown every athlete must agree to any and all rules and conditions including, without limitation, the assumption of risk, publicly release all of which are incorporated herein by reference, and to the decisions of CrossFit Horowhenua (organisers of The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown) which are final and binding in all respects.
      1. All teams are required to have signed off (via email signature) that each member of the team agrees to abide by the appropriate waivers and documentation as outlined by The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown, validly registered for entry and paid the registration fee in full.
      2. All teams must validly and truthfully register online.
      3. Athletes must be at least 14 years old as at first day of the competition. If Athletes are younger than 18 years old, they must provide additional guardian consent during registration.
      4. Athletes may compete for more than one team. However they must complete each workout the number of times they have entered and scores are to be submitted as separate workouts.
      5. All athletes agree that photographs and video taken and submitted to The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown FaceBook page may be used for publicity purposes for current and future events.
    2. All athletes agree to compete in a sportsman like manner
    1. I agree to abide by all competition rules (as listed below), and directions issued by the competition organisers.
      1. I acknowledge that participation [particularly during exercise related activites], involves a risk of injury or even death from various causes including overexertion, equipment failure, dehydration, accidents with other persons and other causes.
      2. I accept all risks necessarily flowing from my participation, which could result in loss of life or permanent injury. Accordingly, I release all persons, companies or corporations associated directly or indirectly with the conduct of the competition from all claims demands and proceedings arising out of my participation and I hereby indemnify them against all liability (including liability for their negligence and the negligence of others) for injury or damage arising out of or connected with my participation in this competition. This release shall extend to and include CrossFit Horowhenua and their preferred partners, sponsors, volunteers and judges appointed for the duration of competition, the owners, licensees, and occupiers of land upon which the competition or any part of it is conducted, any statutory body or local authority having control over any land upon which the competition or any part of it is conducted or which is involved directly or indirectly with the competition in any manner whatsoever. This release and indemnity continues forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representatives and assigns.
      3. I consent to receiving medical treatment that the competition organisers and/or their preferred partners and/or the facility I am undertaking the workout at think desirable during or after any individual event organised as a part of the competition.
      4. Safety precautions undertaken by the organisers and the competitions preferred partners are a service to me and other competitors but are not a guarantee of safety.
      5. I am fully responsible for the security of my personal possessions at any event or place I attend associated with the competition.
      6. I acknowledge that by reason of circumstances beyond the control of the competition directors, it may become necessary or desirable to change the format of the competition, and if that occurs, I consent to the changes and I agree that each and every one of the conditions herein set out shall apply to that changed competition.
      7. If I elect to pull out of the competition or I am unable to compete due to flood, earthquakes or other “acts of God” conditions in my area, I understand that entry fee will not be refunded.
      8. I acknowledge that all material supplied by me for the purposes of judging is the property of CrossFit Horowhenua and may be used by The Kitty and Cougar Throwdown and/or our sponsors and/or our Preferred Partners for promotional purposes or similar.
      9. I consent to the competition organisers using my name, image and likeness before during or after the competition for competition promotional broadcasting or reporting purposes to the media.
      10. I agree to my name and contact details being included on the competition database, which will be made available to event sponsors and preferred partners on their request, and from which I may receive from time to time competition information, newsletters, as well as competition preferred partners and sponsors information. (Your name and contact details will not be passed onto any other person).
      11. I acknowledge that I have been cleared by a registered medical practitioner to undertake physical activity. I further acknowledge that should I not have attained a medical clearance that I declare that I am physically fit and healthy enough to undertake physical activity the course of this competition.
      12. I acknowledge that I am over 14 years of age and I have permission of my guardian to enter the competition [signature of guardian required], or am a Youth of Independent Means with the legal capacity to sign and understand the contract, or that I have attained the age of 18 years and have the legal capacity to sign and understand the contract.
      13. Competition organisers and/or directors have the right to refuse entry to any person or party without notice and without requirement for the reasoning of such refusal being provided to the person or party.
      14. I acknowledge that completion of this entry form means I have read all the information provided and agree to the terms and conditions contained herein.
    1. For all workouts, the workout format will be released and communicated uniformly to all athletes online at
    2. Workout format will include the following:
      1. Required movements:
        1. Starting and ending ranges of the movement
        2. Prohibited technique, accessories and/or equipment, if any
        3. Adjustments by age, if any
      2. Required number of repetitions and/or repetition scheme
      3. Required equipment
      4. Required amount of weight in kilograms or pounds
      5. Time domain or time limit
      6. Scoring details
    3. Scoring format will be announced with the release of each workout.
    4. Scaling is available to choose as an option for each workout. That means there is a version of the workouts that is much more accessible in cases where such an option is needed. Anyone can choose to scale a workout in order to participate in the continuation of the competition.  If scaling has been chosen, that athlete will score less points per counted rep.
    5. Athletes (with Judges assistance) are responsible for making sure they perform the workout as prescribed, including performing all the required workouts to the described standard according to the individual athletes age, counting and completing of all the required reps, using the required equipment loads, meeting the required time and meeting all submission requirements.
    6. Standard training accessories/equipment are accepted to be used
    7. Weight belts, wrist support, knee or elbow sleeves, gloves, chalk etc
    8. In general equipment that improves safety and/or comfort, but does not confer advantage
    9. Precise start and end dates for the Kitty & Cougar Throwdown will be announced on The Kitty & Cougar Throwdown website Athletes will have 7 days from release of a WOD to complete the workout and a further 48 hours to submit a score.  After this, athletes will not be able to adjust or resubmit any score for that workout.
    10. It is the responsibility of the Athlete to successfully submit their workout score on time every week. Submissions that are incomplete (missing scores, name of Gym, name of Judge etc.), will not be accepted.
    1. Athletes must get their score validated by performing the workout under the observation of a Judge.
    2. Judges do not have to have any formal qualification. They must be deemed by an appropriately qualified Crossfit Trainer to be capable of adequately judging common CrossFit movements and keeping count of repetitions.
    3. Judges are responsible for:
      1. Time-keeping
      2. Enforcing the movement standards
      3. Ensuring the prescribed amount of repetitions are completed
      4. Enforcing the prescribed schedule
    4. Judges are not to touch equipment or move equipment during a workout unless the equipment will interfere with another athletes performance or if there is a legitimate safety concern or unless specifically stated in an individual workout’s instructions.
    5. Judges and event officials have the authority to stop or suspend an athlete at any point in the competition if he or she feels the athlete is at risk or serious injury to herself or others.
    6. It is the responsibility of the athlete to find a suitable premises where they can perform the workouts and have them judged and validated
    7. Submission of scores are to be made as soon as possible in order to let officials manage results.

    2. Winning teams in each age category will be reviewed and made official one week after the close of workout three.
    3. Prizes will be sent out after scores have been officially ratified.
    4. Winners of main prizes, which have been allocated for fun, such things as camaraderie, giving it a go etc, will be officially advised via team email
